My Art

Artist Statement

My artwork is first and foremost the exploration of a process. I have always been interested in the use of materials, as well as specific focuses such as drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpting. I am then driven to explore manipulation of materials past the conventional way of working and thinking. Through my own growing process, my interest is not just in capturing the subject directly but also focusing on the shapes, lines, textures, and movement, which are all specific influencers when I create a piece of art.

Growing up I’ve always been told I was sensitive child. I believe it is my sensitivity to feel life deeply that has driven me to become an artist and a teacher. Through art I choose to ponder, reflect, and enjoy life. The topics of my artwork are always the people, places, and things that are important to my life. In my opinion, to spend time creating art only to toss it aside seems ridiculous. I believe that the memories and images that capture a heart should not stay tucked away. Instead, they should be displayed for future pleasure. The rocking horse specifically is a reminder of my childhood growing up with my mechanic father. The idea to recycle and reuse was first an assignment. The various car parts were easy tools to stumble upon. Capturing the idea to build the horse only seemed fitting to countless memories of visiting my dads shop. Even the familiar comforting smell the horse has lingered reminds me specifically of my father. The connection of art and memory are what ties my work together. I have always meditated on the idea that life is short. To share a piece of myself with others and those who are important to me only seems fitting and is a great privilege.

Please enjoy a few of my own personal pieces.
